Thinking of knitting lace and reading charts? This is a fun scarf to practice on. There are six different patterns to knit by chart. The patterns show best on a solid or lightly tonal yarn. Gauge is not extremely important; however, it will change the yarn requirements if the gauge is different. An intermediate knitter or strong beginner should have no problems with knitting this scarf.

The knitter needs to know how to decrease (k2tog and ssk) and double decreases (S2KP and SK2P). Abbreviations are explained in the pattern. Or if you like, you can just knit 3 stitches together. If following the chart as written, it will be easy to see the different directions of stitches that result from the different decreases -- a fun way to learn.
