We made piles of these snowmen at Sarah Jane’s Yarn Shoppe’s Christmas open house this year. They turned out so cute that I’d like to share the pattern here, too. You are free to copy and pass this pattern along, just keep the author and copyright information in place.

The snowman is knit from the bottom up, and his body & hat look like the finger of a glove as they’re knit. The head shaping comes from a string tied around his neck, hidden by a simple garter stitch scarf. A nice, simple, quick knit.

Notes: Knit at a slightly tighter gauge than you would usually in order to hold stuffing. I used size 6 needles with worsted weight wool yarn.

This would make a fun class to teach DPNs or toymaking. Intermediate knitters completed this project in less than 2 hours, newer knitters were able to get the body and hat knitted in that time and made the scarf & stuffed at home.

The two files available are identical, except that one is in color and the other in black and white for easier printing/copying.

Thanks for taking a look, and let me know if you make any of these!
