This is a wonderfully simple cowl designed in 2 sizes, made only with Knits and Purls. It’s the perfect gift of a hug around the neck for a doggie or kitty lover, and it’s reversible.

skills needed include:
Basic knitted cast on (video link included )
Knitting in the round
Basic Chart reading (great if you are just learning)
Standard bind-off

basic yardage suggestions:
small cowl ~132-145 yards of worsted yarn
long cowl ~ 209-220 yards of worsted yarn

yarn recommendations:
Any worsted weight, lighter colors or low contrast tonals work best with this pattern. Dark colors tend to hide the heart-paw motif.

finished sizes:
small cowl: 9”(23cm) tall x 24”(61cm) circumference
long cowl: 7”(18 cm) tall x 48”(122cm) circumference

Saundra is my rescued German Shepherd dog, she suffers with severe polyarthritis and is currently unable to stand or walk. Its my hope that with continued physical and hydro therapy she will become strong enough to support herself in a mobility cart, and run around on her own.

This pattern is a collaboration of ideas brought together by my dear friend Sherrie (SmotoExpress), she has donated so much of her time, effort and fabulous knitting to Saundra’s support , I don’t know how we will ever thank her. We also want to give a special thank you to the test knitters, BlissKnitter and ShaLin, our friends and supporters in the GSD Lovers group.

All proceeds from the sale of this pattern go directly to support Saundra’s ongoing therapy and the purchase of her Custom mobility cart.

More of Saundra’s story can be read on Facebook, along with pictures and regular updates.

A very special Thank You to everyone who has offered their kindness and support on our journey , Saundra continues to thrive and surprise me with her joy and strength each day. I am so happy to have all of you to share my story
