The Shade Jacket is a recipe for free-styling some delicious yarns and open stitches to create an unconstructed and light-weight wearable work of art. This is a great chance to take a basic shape and give it your own distinctive style by playing with texture, color, and negative space. Mix those colors and go wild!

Skill Level: Advanced beginner or practiced in knitting and purling.

Finished Measurements: taken with garment lying flat.
Back -- long version: approximately 24“ wide and 32“ long using 11 & 13 needles
Back -- short version: 26” wide x 23” long using 10.5 & 11 needles. The jacket will drape to a longer length on the body. It is a loose kimono-style piece, not a fitted jacket! !

Materials required:
About 800-1,200 yards assorted yarns in various weights and fibers
1 36-40” circular US #11 needle (#10.5 for shorter version)
1 47-60” extra long circular US #11 needle (#10.5 shorter version) for neckband
1 36-40” circular US #13 needle (#11 shorter version)
Crochet hook to fit yarns
Tapestry needle for seaming

Sample jackets shown in multiple color-ways of Mango Moon Mantra, Chakra, Legong, Nirvana, Dharma, Elements, Twist, Colina, Summer Breeze, Oh Mercy Me, Parade, Capra, Bumble-Bee, Wooly Stripes, Cotton & Silk Ribbons. Eyelash and metallics are also appropriate and lace and sport weights may be doubled or mixed with other yarns to create your desired color
transitions.

Gauge: Gauge is not important in this recipe!
