Another set of garter-stitch shawl shapes! This .PDF includes Shapes III and IV, both.

These are any-gauge shawls, knit from the top down with any shawl-suitable yarn. The .PDF includes details for the samples shown, so you’ll get the information I’m using—but feel free to substitute finer or thicker yarns, change the gauge, etc. The final dimensions are determined by you!

(Thanks for the positive response to Shapes I and II, by the way! I am enjoying experimental shawl-shaping, and making little overlay drawings about it, and seeing that these are enjoyable for other people is really heartening.)

Gauge:
Any! Aim for a fabric you like, and a gauge that suits your chosen yarn.

Or, for results like the samples, using a sportweight yarn: 20 sts and 40 rows in garter stitch, worked flat.

Materials:

  • 330-990 yards of Cascade Yarns Aegean Tweed, your own handspun, or any substitute sportweight shawl-suitable yarn
  • 1 48”circular needle in US5/3.75mm, or size needed for gauge
  • removable stitch markers
  • Tapestry needle for weaving ends
