Shetland Ruffles is a two color feather and fan stripe with sinuous curves.

Shetland Ruffles is also available as part of the knit/lab Originals volume 2 eBook.

The pdf includes 3 versions of the pattern: the original version, a 2017 version (a slightly simplified version of the original chart, using a variegated yarn to create the illusion of striping without changing yarn every 2 rows), and a 2011 variation (with a higher concentration of increases and decreases for a more ruffled effect).

The pattern can also be knit with lace weight yarn.

The pattern pdf contains charts, instructions and full written patterns for all 3 versions.

The original sample was knit by teilzeitheldin on 3.25/US3 needles with 740m/800yds Wollmeise Sockenwolle 80/20 Twin yarn, 370m/400yds each of the Dornröschen and 47Ag colorways.
Dimensions: 166x40cm/66x18in

The 2017 sample was knit on 5mm/US8 needles with 2 skeins, 100g, 840m of Fibre Kitchen 72% kid mohair 28% silk lace yarn, elderberry colorway.
Dimensions: approximately 44cm/17.5ins wide by 180cm/72ins
Just one skein is used at a time, and the color changes in the yarn create the illusion of striping without changing yarn every 2 rows. Using different variegated yarns will create different effects.

The 2011 variation swatch was knit on 6mm/US10 needles with Lana Grossa Meilenweit 100 Sunset yarn, Colorway 8702.
The swatch is two repeats wide and two repeats in length.
Dimensions of swatch: approximately 38cm/15ins wide by 76cm/30ins

Thanks very much to teilzeitheldin for test knitting and photography!

The pattern can also be knit in lace weight yarn. Here’s a swatch knit on 6mm needles with Icelandic lace weight yarn.
