short-rows wavy hat
This pattern is REALLY old and does not at all represent my pattern quality/style, so I’m deactivating the pdf download for now, until I have time to redo the pdf.
But, the original blogged pattern from 2007 is still up there on my blog (linked on the pattern page), so you can still access that pattern for free - just don’t use it to judge my pattern-writing abilities ;)
Use short row shaping to knit a hat flat on straight needles, plus some increases and decreases to make the wave design. My first self-published pattern, this one is a great way to learn short rows and can look very different when knit with a self-striping yarn, a variegated yarn, 2 colors striping, or wedges of different colors.
Size: adult medium
Yarn: around 90 yards of aran weight self-striping, or multiple solid yarns striping
Needles: pair of size US 10 1/2 straight, optional set of double points for the top
Gauge: 4 stitches/inch
Skills needed: short-rows, provisional cast-on and either 3-needle bind-off or kitchener stitch, make 1 increase, k2tog decrease, optional picking up stitches and knitting around on double pointed needles, with optional i-cord
I wrote a tutorial for two different ways of striping on Craftstylish.
