A crochet hat inspired by Laura Irwin’s knit pattern, the Sideways Grande Cloche (thus, if you can knit, the original is probably better… and I encourage you to support original designs over “cross-threaded” versions – I’m producing this for those of us who aren’t cross-threaded ourselves).

Made from worsted-weight or aran-weight (#4), the hat is worked from the top down without turning. The top of the hat has a wheel-like detail, but after the wheel, the hat body is worked in a spiral manner until the desired height is achieved (with a suggestion of row-count). Lastly, a side twist is added that covers the spiral shaping and joins the wheel to the brim. The hat takes < 1 weekend to crochet. US terms used.

Gauge: “Wheel” approx. 6 inches in diameter.

Note: Recent corrections to wheel area in version 2.0 -- corrects rounds 3 to 7 so that increases match the stitch count (and adds extra detail to stitch count)
