Simbo Bowl
This pattern began with a conversation. A new crocheter asked me how to make a crochet bowl, and when I explained how simple it was, she still looked puzzled and said, “Can you write that down?”
So I did. And that’s how the Simbo Bowl came to life.
I named it after Simbo, one of the Solomon Islands, where villagers – traditionally women – have been handcrafting wooden bowls for generations. It felt like a fitting tribute to the quiet creativity and everyday beauty that goes into making something by hand.
CONSTRUCTION
Crochet in the round from the base to the top.
TECHNIQUES USED
Chain, double crochet (UK terms)
YARN
One 50g ball of cotton aran yarn
100% cotton, 80m/50g (this yarn is available from the Skipton Studio but not on the website yet)
SUGGESTED HOOK
4mm.
GAUGE (tension)
This is the beauty of crochet, you can crochet to your chosen size, so if your gauge is tighter or looser than mine you can crochet an extra round or not.
SIZE AND FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
My bowls measured approx. 8cm (base) and approx. 14cm high (before being folded over).
