It seems like there are never enough washcloths in my house, so I set out to fix that. I came up with a simple and satisfying pattern, with a garter stitch body and a seed stitch border. The size should match standard washcloths, about ten to ten-and-a-half inches long and wide.

Gauge is not critical; you should aim for 4 stitches per inch, but there is definite wiggle room. You will need worsted weight yarn, preferably cotton, size 7 needles (or whatever size needles to obtain gauge), scissors, and an optional tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

This pattern will use about a skein of Lily Sugar and Cream, depending on the type you get. Feel free to experiment with color choices: the sky’s the limit! I hope you enjoy it.
