I wanted to create a hat that would not only keep the sun off my little girl’s face, but also be delicate and stylish. The Simply Sweet Sunhat was the result!
With a delicate/openwork design on the top, a faux knit stitch down the sides, and ending with a fun and floppy brim, this hat truly is “Simply Sweet”.
The smallest size option is toddler (due to the openwork on top not being able to protect the little hairless babes from the sun as well), then there is a child and an adult size as well. There is also an option for an extended brim, for those who want just a touch more coverage.
Both the toddler and child sizes require a sport weight yarn, and I recommend a Bernat Baby yarn. The adult size calls for a medium worsted weight with some drape and flexibility. For that, I recommend Caron Simply Soft. You will need two of the smaller 4oz. skeins, or one of the 6oz. skeins for the adult hat. If you wish to do a two colored hat, there are instructions on where to switch colors.
There is also the option of adding a pretty ribbon to accent the hat, and instructions on where to work it through.
This is a written pattern with a small photo tutorial section to guide you through the faux knit section.
