The inspiration for this cowl was a visit to my local Fatface store just before Christmas. In there was a beautiful knitted cowl with a tag describing it as a ‘knitted / crochet snood’ – clearly, whoever labelled it was not a knitter or indeed a crocheter!

At full price it was more than I wanted to spend and unfortunately it sold out well before I got into the shop during the Post-Christmas sales and I decided I would make a similar one myself
.
The result looks quite different but fits the general style I wanted: wide enough to provide warmth and bulk whilst being just long enough for looping it twice. The fact that it used the exact quantity of wool from my stash was just an added bonus.

The pattern consists of 3 easily memorised lace sections and can therefore be adapted to different quantities of yarn,

One tip: I started knitting this on circular needles (just because I prefer them these days) but found the middle lace pattern to get constantly ‘stuck’ on the joint. Once I changed to straights, it was a lot easier (and more than double my speed).

Errata: each right sided row starts with a knit stitch and finishes with two knit stitches as edging stitches.
