This pattern makes a really fun and really soft hat. Fingering weight yarn makes this hat thin enough to layer over a warmer beanie for extra cold days, or to be worn on its own when there’s just a bit of chill to the air. It is written for a large adult head, with approximately 22-23 inches circumference. Because of the ribbing and slouchy style it will easily fit smaller heads as well.

If you’re really afraid it will be too large and you feel comfortable modifying the pattern, just make sure you have a multiple of 4 stitches on your needles.

The cashmere in Capretta makes for a super soft hat, but if you need something sturdier then any fingering weight sock yarn will work. And you don’t need to stick with black and white- a psychedelic keyboard with hand painted variegated yarns would look super awesome! Just make sure to have about 200 yards of your main color and 50 of the contrast.
