This hat came about as I was trying to figure out the best way to use the gradient yarn I had just dyed. Alternating the knit and purl bands made the colours pop and created a stretchy, roomy and very cute hat. There are similar patterns around, but feel free to try my version.

There are instructions for 8ply/DK and 10ply/Worsted yarn for an adult sized head. There are also notes on dealing with the inconsistencies of hand-dyed and gradient yarn as well as how to eliminate these problems. There are instrcutions on how to control the outcome using small amount of solid yarn.

The last page has instructions for knitting flat on two needles.
