Many people suffer from swollen ankles and feet due to medical conditions and after surgery. Commercially available socks often have small cuffs that become tight when the ankles swell and can cut into the skin. Equally, commercially available socks are usually rather narrow in the foot, and don’t allow for a wider, flatter foot or for high insteps. This pattern aims to address these common issues, while at the same time, giving you a pretty pair of socks with some interesting detail. There are also instructions for a plain pair of socks, suitable for a man or a woman.

This pattern is suitable for intermediate experienced knitters, due to the shaping involved.

The pattern requires approximately 300 m of 4 ply / fingering yarn to complete one pair of socks, plus double point needles. To fit UK women shoe size: 7-8 (and up to 8E wide).
