Mittens, fingerless mittens, scarf and cowl knitting pattern.

Cobblestone streets with small independent shops on either side; this pattern reminds me of wandering home and window shopping on a cold and frosty evening after work. Using aran (worsted) weight yarn, these mittens and cowls can be created in just a few hours. The scarf or cowl pattern is suitable for a beginner knitter as no shaping is involved. The mittens include a small amount of simple shaping for the thumb gusset. All instructions are written with English knitting terms and metric measurements. Use wool, acrylic, or blended yarns that include alpaca, bamboo, camel, or soft merino for super snuggly and warm clothing with an attractive design. These also make ideal gifts for winter birthdays and Christmas, for any of your relatives.

Materials:
To make the full mittens: Approx 200m / 100g aran weight yarn

To make the fingerless mittens: Approx 200m / 100g aran weight yarn

To make the flip-top mittens: Approx 200m / 100g aran weight yarn plus 12 buttons

To make the scarf: At least 600m / 300g aran weight yarn

To make the standard cowl: Approx 200m / 100g aran weight yarn

To make the cowl hood: Approx 400m / 200g aran weight yarn

4 mm double point needles (DPN) or circular needle for mittens, plus size 4.5 mm double point needles (DPN) or circular needle for standard cowl or the hooded cowl (or the correct size to achieve the desired tension). 4 mm traditional needles (or any size to give the desired size of stitch for the pattern depending on the yarn used) for scarf.

Size:
Mittens will comfortably fit hands that are 20 cm in circumference (just above the thumb) and hand length 19 cm from the base of the palm to the top of the longest finger. Cowls can be made any length desired. Standard cowl made following the tension notes given will measure 70 cm in circumference before blocking or pressing.
