Story
I fell in love with Outlander at the beginning of 2020. I was still relatively new to knitting and hadn’t knit a shawl before. However, I was determined to make one like the show‘s heroines wear in Scotland. I got started, figured out a lot, and made mistakes. Something always felt off with the patterns I tried to follow…

Two years later, I saw a teaser for season 6, and bam! – I fell head over heels in love again! There it was – the perfect shawl in my favorite color, and I swore, this time I‘d make it work! So, I made it work, not only for me but for you, too.

Construction
This shawl is first knit bottom-up, starting at the tip on the back. When the desired height of the back is reached, you split it into two halves. Afterward, the wings are knitted separately – one after the other.

Yarn
yardage – for shown examples
for the small one worn by the stuffed bunny:
62 – 64 m | 68 – 70 yds
for the big one worn by me:
891 – 909 m | 974 – 994 yds

yarn weight
I used DK, but this pattern will work with any weight from fingering to light worsted. If you use a different weight yarn, don’t worry about matching my tension – just make sure you like the fabric you’re getting with your yarn and needles.

yarn fiber
The best base for this item is animal fiber with or without other fibers in the mix. Plant bases will make your knit much heavier than intended.
