Pattern description from Knitting in America: “This sweater pattern combines two of Judy’s favorite design tools: color grading and geometric forms. The background grades from black at the bottom through rich purple and red-browns, and finally up into rust shades near the shoulders. The geometric designs are often found in Navajo rugs or in architectural details in the Southwest. The body pieces are knit on the bias. This allows the V pattern, more flattering on most bodies than horizontal patterns, to be easily achieved. Just chose Rowan yarns for this project because of the diversity of colors available. She spent two weeks choosing the colors and working out the graph. Though she is willing to make changes while she’s knitting, before she starts a new project she likes to work out as many of the details as she can. The pattern for the Southwestern Geometric Jacket appears on page 188.”
