A classic slouchy hat shape with a hem instead of the standard rib start – this hat is loosely based on the Voyageur hats of history.

This modern take on the classic shape is further updated with geometric patterns of squares and stripes in a gridline format. The slouchy shaping is then gathered up and embellished with a leather strap and wonderful detail buttons.

Alternative instructions for a knit strap are included in the pattern.

The hem of the cap can have a message or name knitted in or be left plain - charts are available to knit in “Buffalo Wool Co” or there are blank charts so that you can create and knit in your own message!

While the hat is made with yarn and mini’s from the Buffalo Wool Co., it would also be a great pattern for using up left-over bits of 4-ply yarns. Or a wonderful hat could be created by combining a solid colour with a variegated yarn for the “squares”!

A Kit (I will update when it is up on the site) will be available from the Buffalo Wool Co.. The buttons and leather strap are currently available from the Buffalo Wool Co. Contact Ron and Theresa for more information.
