To market, to market to buy … whatever your heart desires!

I love it when the farmers’ markets begin opening in the spring, offering fresh produce for sale long before my own garden is ready.

I developed this market bag because often I would go to the farmers’ market to pick up just a couple of items. Inevitably I would find so many great finds that I would resort to taking one of the vendor’s plastic bags to carry them all!

These bags are a quick project, so you could make several by the time you take your next shopping trip!

The bag is knit in the round, so there is no seaming involved! You will start with just a few stitches for the bottom center and then increasing rounds form the rest of the bottom.

The sides are an open mesh to allow airflow for fresh produce on warm spring days.

The handle is an i-cord threaded through the top row of mesh with the ends joined together into a continuous loop. The loop is long enough to allow for fully opening the bag. When you pull on the i-cord to form the handles, the top of the bag cinches together to secure the contents inside.
