Spring Dreams Mittens
After knitting my first pair of Fair Isle mittens I was charmed by the tiny Latvian braids I saw in folk mittens. I was also addicted to stranded knitting, experiencing joy at seeing the pictures develop as I knit each stitch.
If there was one critique I had of the mittens I was knitting, it was that the worsted weight wool I was using made it difficult for me to wear the mittens in my day to day life. They were wonderful for shoveling snow and making a snow man, but weren’t suitable for driving and running errands.
Taking some inspiration from traditional mittens, I designed the Spring Dreams mitten with a simple afterthought thumb and charming Latvian braids. To make the mittens suitable for my daily life, I chose sport weight wool, and a fun floral pattern to adorn the front.
