This pattern is available from the book Juju’s Loops!

A lot of people come into Loop wanting to knit a gender-neutral baby sweater. It can make people really nervous as they weigh up the associations of each colour. Yes, they could knit in white or cream, but for those knitters who love colour and want to explore fun combinations, we designed Sprinkle. It is especially fun to knit in one of Koigu’s sprinkle colour combinations. You could choose a radical contrast to the sprinkle yarn or blend with one of its tones as we have done here.

Size: Finished chest size 50cm/20in, approx 3mos - 9mos

Yarn:
This pattern is suitable for most 4ply/fingering weight yarns. Look for one that is superwash, for easy baby care. It’s a perfect pattern to use a handpainted plus a solid yarn, or mix one of Koigu’s sprinkle yarns with a semi-solid.

Sprinkle version with stripes:
Koigu Premium and Painter’s Palette Premium Merino: 100% merino, 50g = 160m/175yd
Colour A: Koigu Premium Merino, semi-solid green - 2341, 1 skein
Colour B: Koigu Painter’s Palette Premium Merino, sprinkle with green - P718, 1 skein

Alternate version without stripes:
Quince & Co Tern: 75% wool, 25% silk, 50g = 202m/221yds
Colour A: Blue - Backbay, 1 skein
Colour B: Taupe - Driftwood, 1 skein

Gauge:
10cm/4in = 22sts x 48 rows in garter stitch
10cm/4in = 33sts x 30 rows in chevron stitch
(Chevron stitch grows in length and shrinks in width after it has been blocked. Measure gauge of chevron sample after washing and blocking it into shape.)

Needles:
3.75mm/US 5 circular or straight needles, as you prefer. If decide to knit the sleeves in the round instead of flat, you will need 4 dpns or 100cm/40in circular for the ‘magic loop’ technique.

Notions: stitch holders or scrap yarn, darning needle, two 6mm/.25in buttons
