Søsken is a duo of hats with traditional Norwegian motifs. Søsken means siblings in Norwegian, and Søster, the sister, is the more feminine hat of the two. It is a simple stranded hat knit in the round.

The hat starts with a ribbed brim, and transitions with slipped stitches into plain stockinette stitch. A simple charted pattern is knit throughout and ends with a new stockinette stitch section. The hat is then finished with evenly distributed simple decreases.

This pattern is suitable for an intermediate knitter knowing how to knit stranded work in the round, or for a bold beginner. It does not explain the technique of stranded knitting, nor does it explain how to read a chart, but it is an easy hat to knit.

Skills required : Norwegian long-tail cast-on, knit, purl, knitting in-the-round, stranded knitting, reading from a chart, increases and decreases.

Gauge: 10 st x 13 rows over 5 cm measured over blocked stranded pattern.

Yardage: Sample is knit in De Rerum Natura Gilliat (250meter/100g), 1 skein colour Poivre et Sel, 1 skein colour Plume de Paon.
Sample in size L use approx. 50g (125m) MC and 17g (43m) CC. With two skeins of Gilliat, it is possible to make two hats by switching MC and CC.
You might also tweak out a third hat by switching MC and CC throughout the hat. This is not explained in the pattern, but be a YES-knitter and try!

Søsken est un duo de bonnets aux motifs norvégiens traditionnels. Søsken signifie « fratrie » en norvégien, et Søster, la soeur, est la version feminine du modèle. C’est un bonnet orné d’un motif jacquard simple, tricoté en rond.

Le bonnet commence par des côtes simples avec une douce transition vers du jersey obtenue par des mailles glissées. Le motif en jacquard est tricoté en suivant le diagramme, et on continue ensuite en jersey. Des diminutions régulières finissent le bonnet.

Ce patron convient à une tricoteuse intermédiaire qui sait déjà faire du jacquard, ou bien à une débutante audacieuse qui a déjà tricoté en rond. Il n’explique ni la technique du jacquard, ni l’utilisation des diagrammes, mais le bonnet reste néanmoins facile à réaliser.

Aptitudes nécessaires : montage des mailles élastique dit « Norwegian long-tail cast-on », maille envers, maille endroit, tricot circulaire, jacquard, lire un diagramme, augmentations et diminutions.

Echantillon : 10 mailles x 13 rangs en jacquard bloqué et lavé sur 5 cm

Métrage : L’échantillon est tricoté en De Rerum Natura Gilliat (250meter/100g), 1 pélote couleur Poivre et Sel, 1 pélote couleur Plume de Paon.
