Staggered & Broken
Staggered ribs and broken cables are fun to knit, and set off the eye-catching colorwork yoke on this top-down knit-in-one-piece pullover.
Construction: Staggered and Broken is knit seamlessly in the round from the top down. Short rows add shaping, and are placed below the colorwork yoke and above the underarms. Pretty Broken Cables panel is worked over both front and back. Ribbed neckline is added afterwards.
Finished sweater measures: 33 (36, 41, 45) (49, 53, 59)“ chest circumference for sizes 1 (2, 3, 4) (5, 6, 7).
1-3” ease recommended.
Shown in Size 2 worn with 0” ease on model and 2” ease on dress form.
Yarn: Sunday Knits 3 ply (light sport-weight, 246 yds (225 m) per 50g skein) in a variety of blends. Shown in Brigadoon Sage main color and Nirvana Charcoal contrast color.
Main color: 4 (5, 6, 6) (7, 7, 8) skeins; contrast color: 1 skein.

Substitute any light sport weight woolen yarn that works nicely to gauge: 1000 (1100, 1250, 1390) (1510, 1670, 1830) yds main color, 140 (150, 160, 170) (190, 190, 200) yds contrast color.
Needles: Size 5 US (3.75 mm) circular needles 24-32” (60-80 cm) long for gauge, size 4 US (3.5 mm) and 3 (3.25 mm) circular needles for ribbing.
Notions: Tapestry needle, stitch markers (2 clip-type plus markers to slip), waste yarn, a row counter might also be helpful.
Gauge: 24 sts and 32 rows = 4” (10 cm) in stockinette stitch and in staggered rib pattern using size 5 ndls. 25 sts and 32 rows = 4” in stranded stockinette stitch. Adjust needle sizes if necessary.
