Knit a starfish using only three stitches: knit, a kfb increase, and a k2tog decrease. You could also use the star pattern to make a Christmas decoration, or make a big gold star for a clever student.

THE PATTERN INCLUDES: Row numbers for each step so you don’t lose your place, instructions for making the starfish, a list of abbreviations, a materials list and recommended yarns. The pattern is 2 pages and written in English.

TECHNIQUES: All pieces are knitted flat (back and forth) on a pair of straight knitting needles. You will need to cast on and off, knit, kfb increase, k2tog decrease, and sew pieces together.

  • A pair of straight 3.75mm knitting needles (US 5)
  • Double knitting yarn in yellow (DK or light worsted weight); less than 50g
  • Toy filling
  • Buttons for eyes and black yarn to embroider the mouth
