This scarf is an experiment in a flat, reversible, striped scarf that is evenly stretchy. Knit in seed stitch in the round, a single row contrast color is worked between random width stripes until one color yarn starts to run out. Another cast on is grafted to the work for perfectly matched edges. Finally the scarf is cut in two. I made tutorial videos to accompany these instructions, one for the slip knot cast on and one for the scarf in general and the seed stitch graft specifically.

All you really need to know to make this scarf is on my blog and in videos. The 9 page PDF has additional still photos and an explanation so mind-numbingly thorough it should weed out all but the most devoted perfectionists and algebra aficionados. If you want to encourage me to keep exploring solutions to problems like cast ons not matching cast offs, regardless of how untenably complicated the solution may be, then please buy the PDF to support my ongoing experiments and inventions.

If you are curious how to get perfectly matched stretchy edges watch the video and know that indeed this can be done. Too bad it’s so tedious.
