The Step Up Beanie and Headband pattern is a fun, rhythmic knit that is perfect for binge-watching your favorite show! Named for its mosaic step design, it makes a super bulky, cozy beanie and/or headband in stockinette stitch with the opportunity for as much color as you want--go pastel or go bold--have fun with those leftover and partial skeins! Make two beanies in reverse colors from two skeins and still have enough leftover towards a headband. Perfect for market prep and gifting!

This one-size-fits-most pattern is super quick and super easy. Instead of carrying strands behind work, the color-play is created with the mosaic technique of working only one color at a time and using slip stitches to create the design. That makes it so easy to make and comfortable to wear because there is no double thickness with strands being carried throughout round on the inside--no unnecessary bulk and no wasted yarn! That’s a win for any conscientious maker!

Easy-level pattern is written in US terms (English).
Pattern is for a one-size-fits-most unisex beanie with single brim that knits up in less than a couple of hours for the experienced knitter and not much longer for beginners. Headband is even quicker! Links to video tutorials and an easy stitch chart along with written instructions are included, giving you all the tools you need for success. Pattern is knit in the round from the bottom up with a 22-stitch repeat over 14 rounds, with options to end the step design in multiple places. That way you can make it as simple or intricate as you like. Lots of options to help you make each item unique!

Materials:
Super Bulky yarn with size US 11/13/15 (8/9/10 mm) circular needles and 16”/40 cm cord.
Beanie: MC requires approx. 51 yds/47 m, CC 20 yds/18 m.
Headband: MC requires approx. 28 yds/26 m, CC 20 yds/18 m.
Recommend Malabrigo Rasta but many brands will work--just be sure to confirm gauge with a test swatch before beginning.

Please note, there are no instructions included to make a faux fur pompom. This pattern is for the beanie and headband only.
