Stepaside for some bold, statement pockets and colourwork on this snuggly aran weight pullover. The Stepaside construction is worked top down, and all colourwork is knit in the round, mitered and steeked. After the body is complete, the pockets are knit sideways and joined with a 3-needle bind-off. A surface single crochet is worked along the picked up stitches at the top of each shoulder/sleeve for extra reinforcement. Cuddle up in some fun and don’t mind the double takes.

Needles & Notions

Size A: 4.5mm (US 7) preferred needles for working small circumferences (cuffs) and 24” for collar ribbing)

Size B: 5mm (US 8) 24”, 32”, 40” circulars for stockinette and pocket twisted ribbing

Size C: 5.5mm (US 9) 40” circulars for stranded colourwork

You will also need:

  • 5mm crochet hook for reinforcing sleeve seams and part of the centre body seam;
  • stitch holders, interchangeable cables, or scrap yarn to hold stitches;
  • removable markers for Sunday short rows;
  • tapestry or darning needlefor weaving in ends;
  • darning needle and sturdy lace or sock yarn for reinforcing the steeks (since this is bulky yarn I strongly recommend hand sewing with a needle and lace weight yarn to reduce extra bulk and weight);
  • grosgrain ribbon and needle and thread to finish the steek edge along the hemline and cuffs, if desired;
  • stitch markers.
