These fingerless mitts are the perfect partner to the Stripy Twist Cowl which I designed to showcase the beautiful colours of Woolly Chic’s range of DK yarns. They are worked at a tighter gauge than the cowl to give a more robust fabric, ideal for mitts. The pattern is written to use 3 colours, so go wild with your colour choice! Which combination will you choose?

These fingerless mitts are worked seamlessly in the round. An afterthought thumb is added at the end. Slipped stitches are used to break up the stripe pattern. These slipped stitches are worked with a twist to create the diagonal pops of colour and texture.

The pattern has been fully tech edited and tested.

Techniques Used:

I used the Magic Loop technique on one long circular needle, but you could use two circular needles or double pointed needles, whatever is your preference for knitting in the round. If you can knit and purl in the round, then you should be able to tackle this project with ease.

The pattern uses a cable cast on, a stretchy cast off, and a ‘twisted slip stitch’. To stop the ‘step’ that you get when knitting stripes in the round, the pattern uses the ‘Jogless Stripe’ technique when changing colours. Full instructions for these techniques are provided in the pattern.

Yarn:

Any Woolly Chic DK yarn or West Yorkshire Spinners DK yarn can be used.

The samples were knitted using Woolly Chic Pembrokeshire DK Yarn 80% Wool / 20% Alpaca or Woolly Chic 50% Wensleydale / 50% Pembrokeshire DK Wool or West Yorkshire Spinners Jacob DK.

You will need approx. 25g (approx. 55m / 60 yards) in each of 3 colours.
