The Sunburst Illusion Knit came about following discussions with Cynthia Butcher about NASA’s SDO First Light images and videos.
The original images are spectacular, it has been a real challenge trying to get anything that even came close.
The completed Sunburst Illusion is approximately 58cm by 85cm in my tight knitting using DK yarn and 3mm needles. Thicker yarn and bigger needles could alter the size considerably.
It is knitted to be viewed from the side so is intended as the centre for a wall hanging or bed-cover.
The fourth photograph shows the illusion when viewed from directly in front.
September 2013 Update
The pattern now includes an extra chart intended for tablet users but others may find it helpful. You can view 20 ridges at a time and always be able to see the numbers across the bottom of the chart. Never lose your place again!
