I designed this shawl out of my love for both Lace patterns and Variegated yarns. I am very much drawn to beautifully variegated yarns when I’m shopping around but also noticed not many lace patterns are written to work well with these colour changes.

I designed this large lace motif to still show up well in yarn that is highly variegated, however it also looks just as beautiful knit up in a gorgeous tonal or solid colour too.

I think this pattern is well suited to beginner lace knitters as it is both charted and written out. However, if you are new to lace knitting I would strongly recommend that you use stitch markers to mark out each of the pattern repeats once you get to the lace portion. This will make it easier to spot any mistakes before you go too far past it.

What you will need:

Yarn – 100g Fingering Yarn (approx. 400 metres / 440 yards) – Yarn used in Pattern Photos is ‘Fiery Sunset’ by The Yarn Tree UK (Orange/Red/Yellow), and Malabrigo Sock (Blue/Green)

Needles – 3.75mm Circular Needles to accomodate larger number of stitches or needle size required for your gauge.

Notions – Stitch Markers (min of 4 but may need more if you decide to mark each lace repeat – this is recommended if you are new to lace knitting) and tapestry needle to weave ends

Gauge – 18 stitches per 4 inches in stockinette (after aggressive blocking), whilst gauge is not terribly important in this pattern (as long as you are happy with the fabric you are getting) do note that any change in gauge will have an effect on the amount of yardage you will require.

Finished Size of shawl – 170cm across and 45cm deep after aggressive blocking.

I hope you enjoy this pattern as much as I enjoyed creating it.

And thank you so much to all my wonderful testers ( dubaimel jhocy waipahu karsol12 and knittingmaryb ) who helped me test the design.
