This is one of multiple Soleil (sun) designs I had swirling in my head. Finally I got it out of there and knitted.

The shawl is worked in garter stitch throughout. It starts with a 4-stitch provisional cast on, and is knitted up and across the short rows that form the sun rays, and back to the other end. Stitches are then picked up to knit the garter and lace borders.

I worked this design in sock and single-ply merino yarns. It works beautifully in both. This design requires 2 colors, approximately 305 yards each.
