Knitting can make you feel like a superhero. End the repeat at the right marker, conquer a difficult pattern, learn a new skill—knitting can feel like a superpower! The gaps in this fabric remind me of superhero masks and provide lots of opportunity for relaxing knitting while adding in some funky fun. Short rows make this cowl look like a draped shawl without the fuss!

Rather make the shawl? The Superhero Shawl is available!

Knit flat with a short seam at the back, you can change the size of your cowl by choosing a lighter or heavier weight yarn. Though this pattern is written for two colors, the Superhero Cowl pattern can be knit in 1, 2, 3 (or more!) colors.

Sport weight—25” neck opening x 14” deep in front (63.5 x 35.5 cm) after blocking and seaming
Worsted weight—29” neck opening x 18” deep in front (73 x 46 cm) after blocking and seaming

Materials:
• Sport weight example—approx. 395 yds, 361 m total
As shown, Malabrigo Arroyo—MC Azul Profundo (280 yds/256 m), CC Fresco y Seco (115 yds/105 m)
US Size 5 (3.75 mm) 24” (161 cm) circular needle (or size needed to obtain gauge)
• Worsted weight example—approx. 445 yds, 407 m total
As shown, Malabrigo Rios—MC Sabiduria (330 yds/302 m), CC Sunset (115 yds/105 m)
US Size 7 (4.5 mm) 24” (161 cm) circular needle (or size needed to obtain gauge)
• Tapestry needle, locking stitch marker

Gauge: sport (worsted) 20 (17) sts = 4” (10 cm) in garter stitch after blocking

Note: This cowl may be worked with lighter or heavier weight yarns. If you change the yarn weight, make sure that you choose a needle size that gives you the drape you desire in the fabric. Yardage requirements will change based on yarn weight and gauge.
