This design was created especially for my sister-in-law, who competes in synchronized figure skating. Pictured is the reach for a hand-to-hand hold, which I’m told is a basic move, together with some old-school compulsory figures.

Finished Size:
To fit an adult-sized head of approx 22 in circumference, and 9.5 in from brim to crown.

Materials:

  • Approx 200m/218yds fingering weight yarn (28st per 10cm/4in) each in two contrasting colors (MC is lighter; CC is darker) NOTE: Sample knit in a now discontinued merino, alpaca, and cashmere blend with 109 yards per 25g ball. Suggested alternatives include Drops Flora, Cascade Yarns Heritage Silk, Knit Picks Palette

  • 2.75mm/US2 50cm/20-inch circular knitting needle and double-pointed

  • needles (or size needed to obtain gauge)

  • Row counter Stitch markers

  • Cable Needle (optional)

  • Tapestry needle

Gauge:
28st and 40 rows in 10cm/4in in double-knit pattern (28 pairs of sts).

Special Stitch Instructions:
Jogless Join
At start of rnd 10, slip front st, move working yarns to front, slip back stitch; cont chart from second st.
Double Knitting Single Decrease
dksd – sl next st as if to p, sl next 2 sts as if to k2tog (sts will reverse order and twist), sl CC st back to left
needle being sure to untwist, work slipped MC sts as ssk, p2tog.
