This pattern (along with most of my earlier work) was discontinued in the summer of 2022.

A handful of my absolute favorite patterns have come back (you can see all the currently available patterns here). A few more will likely come back over time. And I am absolutely still making new things! But I do not have any plans to have the whole catalog be generally available ever again.

However, enough people have asked about the discontinued patterns that I will probably make the discontinued patterns available for a few days once or twice a year.

Tacit adjective understood or implied without being stated

It’s just cables. No really, I promise! I know it looks like there is some sort of fancy magic going on there, but it really is just cables. And just two by two cables at that. Once you’ve knit a few rounds, you’ll see exactly how it comes together, and you’ll be hooked.

But I do feel like I should warn you. From what I’ve seen so far, there’s every chance one pair won’t be enough. These seem to be the sort of project that get requested by friends and family who see you knitting them (and I’ve even heard tell of a pair or two getting cough borrowed cough as soon as they were off the needles). So you may want to plan on making a few pairs.

The mitt is written in three sizes (castons of 44, 48, & 52 stitches), and you should feel free to adjust your gauge a bit to fine tune the fit of the mitt. Just be sure that you’re working at a gauge that gives you a fabric you like with your chosen yarn!

I recommend working at something around 5.5, 6, 6.5, or 7 stitches per inch, and I’ve included a table to help you figure out what gauge you’ll want to use for your size. With that range of sizes and gauges, the cuffs will fit a wrist between 6.5 and 10 inches (with lots of points in between).

These are perfect for you if:

• You simply must know how that zig zag happens
• You know in your heart of hearts that mitts should be mirrored
• Your hands get cold as easily as mine

They’re not for you if:

• You don’t like charts (the pattern uses charts)
• You hate swatching (you need to swatch to check your needle size)
