The prelude to the publication of Turtles All the Way Down was filled with turtles, from the signing chart created by Sarah Urist Green to Hank’s “Happy Birthday John!! (we made you some cakes)” video -- see link text -- to Twitter posts far and wide. The book cover itself, however, featured distinctive orange spirals. This hat incorporates both visuals associated with John Green’s 2017 book.

The TAtWD Hat pattern guides your making of a stranded or Fair Isle hat, knitted in the round, and was created as a perk for the Project for Awesome (P4A) 2018 charity fundraiser. This year’s charities include Save the Children and Partners in Health. All proceeds raised from this pattern go to designated charities through the auspices of the P4A.

My aim was to create a pattern that could be worked in any fingering weight yarns of sufficient quantity. I did not need a full skein of either color. While I didn’t play with multiple colors, that doesn’t mean you can’t.

I also tested the concept in worsted weight yarn, and pattern notes include figures for those versions (infant and adult head of approx. 23”).

Please note: the pattern is not a Ravelry download; it is a digital perk dispersed by Complexly, LLC and P4A.
