This is a “first project” for those wishing to learn stranded (two colour) knitting. The cowl is knit in the round on a circular needle. Knit with two colours of yarn in the same row, read simple colour-work charts, knit simple stranded motifs, and weave in the colour not in use.

It is assumed that knitters are confident with casting on; the knit stitch; the purl stitch; binding off; and knitting in the round.

Final measurements: About 53cm (21in) in circumference, with plenty of stretch, and 23cm (9in) tall.

Materials:
Main Colour (MC) (lighter colour): 50g (184yds) Brown Sheep Nature Spun Sport “Aran”.
Contrast Colour (CC) (darker colour): 50g (184yds) Brown Sheep Nature Spun Sport “Spring Green”.
(Any sport weight yarn may be substituted). The cowl uses about 115yds of MC and 75yds of CC.

Gauge: 24 stitches and 30 rows = 10cm (4in) over stranded work.
