The dance hat is part of a series of designs I’m writing while I de-stash and make Christmas gifts. It starts with an Icord edge instead of the more typical ribbing and is followed by bold fun colors in alternating lines. The two yarns are different weights making the grey stripes seem smaller and ensuring the number of icord rows matches the number of stitches around the hat.
The pattern is written for a womens size hat (72 stitches around) but the pattern can easily be followed with any multiple of 4 stitches. To determine the best size, measure your head and knit the Icord that length, with the thinner yarn, then simply pick up one stitch per row along it. On the first round you can increase or decrease to the nearest multiple of 4 stitches.
Happy Knitting!
