Elk Falls is one of the local beauty spots near where my parents live and my daughter wore the hat when we visited so this became “The Elk Falls Hat”.

The cuff on the hat is formed with reversible cables so that you have options.

  • If you make a short cuff you can wear it as a beanie with the main section either as knit or purl stitches.

  • If you make a longer cuff you have more options because you can wear it slouchy on either side, or turn up the cuff for a different look (total of 4 options).

The pattern includes a table which means you can knit an adult hat in anything from fingering - bulky weight yarn.

You can also just use the stitch counts to do your own thing (tighter gauge for a smaller hat - maybe make a child’s or baby version?).
