Last fall, I asked my little brother if a scarf would be an acceptable birthday present. He said, “Okay, but it has to be manly.” Fortunately, the steel gray yarn I was eyeing for the project was definitely manly. I figured a border of moss, uh, barbed wire stitch would be manly, too, especially surrounding a bold, manly cable. The Manly Scarf knits up quickly and looks great on anyone brave enough to wear it. Knit it in merino and silk for a little luxury or in rugged wool to keep out the cold. Leather optional.

Pattern features both charts and written instructions and requires basic cabling skills.

Requires about 100g of worsted-weight yarn. For the grey scarf, I used 1 full skein of Cascade Venezia Worsted in color 131. For the natural scarf, I used 1 full skein of Cascade 220 in color 8012. (A longer scarf will require 2 skeins.)

The Manly Hat and Manly Mitts are now available separately or as part of the collection “More Manly” (along with the coordinating Manly Möbius); the entire set requires at least 300g of yarn.

Note: my brother would kill me if I didn’t note that he’s not the one modeling the scarf in the pictures. The grey-scarf model is my long-suffering friend Remington, (thanks, Rem!), and the natural-scarf model is my partner, Pat (you’re the greatest).
