This is a simple baby hat that goes with The Dumb Baby Sweater.

Size: 6 months-1 year

Materials Needed:

  • One 1.75 oz (50g) skein of fine-quality worsted wool or acrylic yarn
  • Size 8 (5mm) knitting needles, any length, straight or circular (or any size needles that will give the correct gauge
  • Very thin plastic ring markers
  • Slip-on ring markers
  • Heavy cotton crochet thread for horizontal marker
  • A small-size double-pointed ‘sock’ needle
  • An extra-small-size circular needle (to pick up stitches)
  • Rubber needle-point protectors
  • Small safety pins
  • A large tapestry or small metal yarn needle
  • 1 yard (91.4 cm) of 3/4-inch-wide (1.9 cm) purchased ribbon for tie

NOTE: You may need to devise another solution because ribbons are a choking hazard.

Gauge: “The gauge or tension for this garment is 4.5 sts per 1 inch. (18 st = 4 inches/10cm) (All of the following say the same thing.)

Gauge: 4.5 sts = 1” (2.6 cm) in stockinette st

9 sts = 2” (5.1 cm) in stockinette st

18 sts = 4” (10.2 cm) in stockinette st

Tension: 18 sts = 4” or 10.4 cm in stockinette st“
