Supplies:

125 small gemstone chips, or bugles #2, or #2mm freshwater pearls or beads

36 size 10 or 11 cut glass beads or seed beads

Thread, Jeans Stitch, Topstitching, or Anchor/DMC #80 or equivalent

Optional: Sulky Metallic Thread

Why call it a surprise? Since chips are not uniform, you never know exactly how each taco will look until finished. When I started making this design as a project, I had no idea what it would be, so when I finished and looked at it, it was a surprise to me! Pattern conventions: A “b” in front of a crochet stitch abbreviation indicates bead+stitch given. This pattern uses “bch” for beaded chain stitches in the crocheted edging. That means chain the number indicated, adding a bead in each chain stitch as you go. (Well, they’re chips in this design, but you get the idea.)

A kit used to be available including necessary supplies and instructions for the pendant, the matching Why-Knot Necklace, and a tiny version of the pendant for earrings. Additional clarification, diagrams, and few options are given at different steps in the kit instructions that are not included in the online pattern. But as of July 2010 the link for the kit is not valid.
