The Wallpaper Had it Coming (Again) Mittens
”Bored! Bored! I don’t know what’s gotten into the criminal classes. Good job I’m not one of them.”
”So you take it out on the wall?”
”Ah, the wall had it coming.”
Another wallpaper pattern, this time inspired by my 221B Nerd Wars dissertation. Really, I shouldn’t get any credit for this pattern since the original design belongs to beforesunrise. I did make the pattern match up on a pair of mittens, though.
Another, smaller wallpaper print pattern is available here.
This pattern is only available as a chart following traditional Selbu construction and comes with no written instructions. These mittens were designed to accommodate longer fingers than usual and have longer cuffs to keep out the cold.
Pattern gauge of 8.25 stitches per inch using sport weight yarn will produce a 7.5” circumference mitten that is 11” long.
If you plan to line your mittens, make sure you knit them with an extra .5-.75” ease. You will need approximately 150-200 yards of fingering weight to make a loosely knit liner.
If you elect to make lined fingerless mittens by binding off at the green lines on the chart, you can use a 3-needle bind off to seam your mitten liners neatly into the edge of your gloves.
As always, adjusting your gauge and yarn weight to fingering (10 sts/in for 6.5” circumference), DK (7 sts/in for 8.75” circumference), or worsted (6 sts/in for 9.5” circumference) allows this chart to fit almost everyone as desired.
Finally, a big thank you again to beforesunrise, and as always no copyright infringement is intended with this free design: all relevant characterizations belong to their respective owners. Please use this pattern for personal use only.
