Not long after I first started designing knitwear, I came up with my own version of the classic two-pompom beanie. As my aesthetic has matured, and favourite knitting techniques have settled into a comfortable groove, I adapted and reworked my original bear beanie into something I truly love. Delicious, Australian-grown merino blooms into something truly magical, and when it’s paired with THEODORE, the result is a thick, cushy, and snuggly hat for your littles. Add a point of difference by making a two-colour pompom, or keep it classic with a single colour. Either way, your small people (or maybe even you) will love wearing a beanie that is warm, soft, and fun, all at once.

THEODORE is knitted in the round, bottom up, then seamed at the crown using kitchener stitch. Pompoms are then sewn on to the two corners that are created by a series of decreases.

Sizes
Baby: 42-48cm
Toddler/Small Child: 48-52cm
Child/Teen: 51-55cm

Gauge is 22sts over 10cm. Row gauge isn’t important for this pattern.

I recommend allowing one full 100g ball of your chosen yarn for this pattern, to allow for differences in gauge, your choice of brim depth, and the size of the pompoms. Five grams of a contrast colour for the speckled “ear” detail will be sufficient.

This pattern has been test knitted. Thank you to all my wonderful testers for their help.
