Tinderbox is a study of the traditional Shetland Diamond lace motif. Starting from the center back with a garter tab, the shoulder panel features Shetland Diamond Mesh. The feature panel through the center of the shawl plays with the size of Shetland diamond, increasing to the bottom edge and finishing with a short-rowed tip. The lower half of the shawl bursts forth in Shetland Diamond as rib, with reverse stockinette gored panels that make a wide flounce, giving the shawl an overall heart shape. The bottom edging sees Shetland diamond deconstructed, creating soft bell curves along the edge. Lace instructions are written and charted.

Tinderbox is the ideal shawl. It hugs the shoulders, making it easy to wear without any fastener. Use your favorite fingering weight yarn that has great stitch definition and drape, such as a single-ply superwash merino, to make your diamonds really pop! Many superwash sock yarns are also great for this project and make for a long-wearing, easy-care shawl.

This traditional motif is fun to knit and easy to follow. Tinderbox will light aflame the interest of any lace knitter!
