This is a lovely pattern to work with if you have mastered the basics of knitting and want to produce something substantial. It would also be a great design to use up your stash of oddments. Whilst I have produced a uniform colour scheme to make the sample blanket this would make a great challenge to produce something more random or eclectic.

The design was inspired by the many and varied fabric patchwork quilts around and I wanted to create something that had texture and depth as well as the feel of a traditional patchwork.

THe blanket can be made as big or as small as you wish, but I settled for a throw size measuring 107cm wide by 160cm long.

Since each panel is made individually and then sewn together, this project can be made in between other things, but is well worth the effort when it is complete.

I have recommended Rowan Soft Knit cotton and used it to make the sample blanket. It was so lovely to work with, but would work equally well with other DK weight yarns or even knitting to the pattern with a chunky tweed yarn would give a fabulous result!
