There are 2 cuff choices in this design—a fairly basic striped, ribbed cuff or a fold-over cuff with a colorwork pattern on the outer cuff and a hidden inner ribbed cuff for a snug fit.

The three sizes are achieved by adjusting the gauge. For the most part, this is simply a matter of changing the needle size. But yarn weight can also be a factor, so it is absolutely essential to do a pretty substantial gauge swatch using the yarn you’ve chosen and the needles you plan to use (unless you’ll be happy with whatever size you end up making!). All 3 sizes use the same charts. The number of colors required for the design vary from a minimum of 2 through a total of 6. This is a great design for using a variegated, self-striping or tonal yarn along with a strongly contrasting yarn.

The yarn weights that can be used range from a heavy fingering weight through a light DK weight, but once again, gauge is of utmost importance. My 3 samples used 3 different yarn bases: sport weight yarns Garthenor Organic Number 2 for the size small sample, Jaggerspun Maine Line 3/8 for the size medium and a sturdy DK weight, Rauma Strikkegarn, for the size large sample.

There are 3 sample color charts included, but as always, choose whatever colors you love! There is a set of charts for 2 or 3 colors (1Light and 1or 2 Dark shades), a set for 4 or 5 colors (1 or 2 Light and 3 Dark shades) and a set for 6 colors (3 Light and 3 Dark).

DETAILS
-Mitten pattern includes 3 sizes—Adult Small, Medium and Large.
-The pattern uses simple, geometric colorwork motifs. No more than 2 colors are used per round.
-There are 2 cuff options—a fold-over outer cuff with inner hidden ribbing, or a ribbed, striped cuff.
-There are 2 thumb options, alternate colorwork charts. The thumb starts with a gusset arranged slightly to the palm side for a comfortable anatomic fit.
-Choose needles based on your favorite method for working small circumferences in the round: DPNs, a 32-inch circular needle (magic loop), OR 2 24-inch circular needles.
-Notions required: tapestry needle, smooth waste yarn for a stitch holder, 2 stitch markers.

MEASUREMENTS
-Circumference is measured around the knuckles (mitten hand), not including the thumb.
-Length is adjustable—instructions for customizing are included in the appropriate section.

Finished Circumference Measurements

Medium: 8 inches
Large: 8.6 inches
