This scarf is a simple lace edged, symmetrical and gradually sloped garter stitch elongated diamond or hexagon -- your choice of shape. Whether you make a diamond or a hexagon will depend on your yarn and your desired width and length. You make this choice as you knit, so there’s no need to swatch !!

The scarf can be made in virtually any weight yarn. Just use needles that are appropriately sized for the yarn you select or, if you tend to knit tightly, a bit larger so that your finished scarf will drape.

Yardage depends on the weight of your yarn and the size of your scarf. Samples have been knit as follows:

Fingering 7” x 71” hexagon -- 342 yards
Sport 7.25” x 68” hexagon -- 326 yards
DK 6.5” x 59” hexagon -- 245 yards
Worsted 7” x 51” diamond -- 202 yards
Aran 7” x 63” hexagon -- 205 yards

The Uber Zag Edged Scarf differs from its free namesake, the Zag Edged Scarf. Unlike its namesake, the Uber Zag Edged Scarf is sloped and has lace edging on both sides, yielding a diamond or hexagon rather than a triangle or trapezoid.

The pattern is written but there are also charts for the beginning, end, and lace edgings and diagrams illustrating the two shapes (diamond and hexagon).

HELPFUL TIP: “K to 2M” means to knit past the first marker (slipping it as you go) and until you come to the second marker.
