This sideways knit cardigan is constructed in one piece then seamed along sleeves and underarms. The fabric canvas lends itself to variations such as using a gradient, or a fair isle pattern, or adding stripes. Neck and bottom edgings are picked up and knit when the body is complete, followed by the button bands. The edgings can be done in a contrasting color.

The sweater pictured in the pattern was made the largest size, used one skein of Tess’ Designer Yarns Super Socks & Baby (very variegated) for the body, and additional sport weight superwash merino for the edgings.

The chest sizes suit 6 mo, 9 mo, 12 mo, and 18 mo with 3 to 4 inches of ease. The pattern is easily made wider or narrower by adding or subtracting body rows, and there is a schematic to guide the adjustments.
