This piece is named after the Hungarian painter Victor Vasarely, who believed in the artist as a workman who could make prototypes reproducible at will. His large Op Art canvases and tapestries, often painted in contrasting psychedelic colors, depicted clean-cut geometric abstractions. In the elegant simplicity of his skinny rib sweater, with its graphic rib stitch pattern, I have tried t capture the purity of form which characterized Vasarely’s work.
